Testing and Assessment (available in Rockwall, Texas)

  • Comprehensive neuropsychological and psycho-educational assessments. We utilize a state of the art, research validated Cross Battery approach (XBA; Flanagan et. al, 2000) and explain results in clear, understandable language. These assessments are critical for any student in Special Education, as well as those needing exploration of learning difficulties, giftedness or recommendations for academic placement. We are able to describe a student's strengths and weaknesses, identify any specific learning disabilities and develop an educationally appropriate plan to help them succeed. We are also able to perform Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE's) when you disagree with your district's testing results. Having been both a special needs parent and a Special Education Chairperson, Dr. Masin knows that most neuropsychologists do not truly specialize in educational assessment. Here at Metro, we strive to make our reports understandable and practical, incorporating educationally appropriate recommendations rather than needless, irrelevant medical jargon that your district will simply ignore.

  • Diagnostic evaluations. When specific disorders such as ADHD, autism, depression, anxiety and many others are suspected. We offer the ADOS-2 Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule for all ages, including toddlers.

  • Career Assessment. Provides computerized feedback regarding career and vocational options based on interest, capability and fit with personality traits.

All tests are administered, scored and interpreted by a doctoral level psychologist rather than an intern or student. Assessment costs range from $650 - $3,500.

Talk Therapy and Consultation (online and limited in-person availability).

  • Individual Psychotherapy: short-term Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for kids and adults utilizing research validated approaches and goal setting. CBT is considered the "gold standard" of modern pyschotherapy and focuses on identifying and changing negative, unhelpful thoughts and behavior patterns that lead to depression and anxiety. The goal of CBT is for the patient to eventually become their own therapist and develop skills to help themselves work through some of life's biggest challenges (kid's can do it too!). CBT is a great fit for people who want to change but don't want to sit around analyzing their childhood for several years.

  • Parent Skills Training: individually or in conjunction with child therapy. Increase positive parent-child interactions and emotional communication, teaching time out and the importance of parenting consistency in a safe, non-judgmental way.

  • Social Skills Training: individually and in groups, social skills training is especially helpful for individuals on the autism spectrum and children with ADHD. Social skills curriculum is taught on an as needed basis, after determining your child's individual needs. Group costs are $50 per week and require an 8 week commitment once individual skills have been practiced.

  • Marriage & Family Therapy: couples and family systems therapy. Work on intimate relationships in a nurturing, nonjudgmental way utilizing Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and other research supported approaches.

  • Special Education Consultant Services: Dr. Masin is available to consult on your child's educational needs including 504 and IEP development and advocacy at committee meetings. Please call to discuss your particular needs and cost.

  • Telehealth Services: Telehealth (online therapy sessions) is a convenient and highly effective services offered to any patient, including children, who prefer to meet online via secure video-conference. Stay in your slippers and get comfortable!
